Fearing a clash with China over Taiwan, the United States and Japan are discussing stockpiling armaments, including missiles, in each other’s military bases in Japan and near Taiwan.
The plan is to immediately deploy missiles in the event of a conflict in the Taiwan Strait.
The objective is to scatter the weapons over Japan and Taiwan to prevent a probable Chinese strategy of denying American and Japanese forces access to the East and South China seas.
With China officially threatening to take Taiwan by force, Japan has raised the alarm on the prospect of a Chinese attack multiple times.
Tokyo has increased its defense spending, fearing that if China attacks Taiwan, Beijing will retaliate by attacking Japanese-controlled islands.
